“Gun Free Zone” for everyone but the killer.

February 15, 2008

DE KALB, Ill (CBS) ― A gunman opened fire on a geology class at Northern Illinois University Thursday afternoon, killing five people before taking his own life on stage as panicked students ran and ducked for cover.

NIU President John Peters said a total of 22 people were shot, including the gunman. Four people, including the gunman, died at the scene; two others died later at area hospitals. (Link)

One gun in the hands of one professor or student who was trained to use it could have stopped this massacre. But the school administration in its infinitely Liberal wisdom had, like most college campuses, and the like the campus I currently attend, banned all firearms on campus.

And so you have 6 people dead when there should have only been one dead: the shooter.

This is a microcosm of the fruit of Liberalism, folks.  The truth is that there are evil people in the world, and they have guns; good people ought to be allowed to have them too.

I’m writing a letter to Lee Todd.

Why is a raven like a writing desk?

February 13, 2008

Why not?

The previous illustrates how very important it is that professional writers are back at work today. But an even better illustration is all of the crap that’s been on tv for the past month.

Rejoice, entertainment junkies of America! The WGA strike is over.

I only hope it is in time enough to save Battlestar Galactica. Please God, let the suits over at SciFi Channel make at least one rational content decision.

Why is professional writing so important, you ask? Because without it, we wouldn’t have such gems as this:

Starbucks hearts AT&T

February 12, 2008

Not that this is such a big deal, but it’s been a sore point for me for a long while now that I can’t visit the hundreds of Starbucks locations around the country and use the wireless internet connection (which up until now has only been available to those who pay T Mobile for the privilege). I mean, hasn’t ‘free internet’ been the universally accepted definition of the word ‘coffeeshop’ for, what, at least 100 years now?

According to Wired.com, Starbucks is switching to MY cell service provider, AT&T- who I dutifully send $15 extra a month for internet service as it is. Yay. Now in a perfect world, Starbucks would do what every other coffeeshop on the planet does, and just let anyone use their connection. However, if they are going to limit the use to only one group of people, I’m glad that I happen to be one of those people.

I’ll be spending quite a bit more time at Starbucks now.

John Bolton to the rescue!

February 11, 2008

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Well, the unthinkable has happened, and now, maybe, just maybe…. I could stomach voting for McCain. It’s only because one of my heroes has endorsed him; now, don’t get me wrong- I’m not happy about the prospect of a President John McCain. But I am very, very excited about a, perhaps, Secretary of the State John Bolton!:

U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton has endorsed John McCain for president. Ambassador Bolton issued the following statement on his endorsement:

“John McCain was very active and supportive during my confirmation hearings to be the U.S. Ambassador to the UN. His belief in me at that time was a testament to his courage to fight the liberals in the Senate and vigorously advance American interests at the UN.

“I whole-heartedly endorse John McCain for President because when he takes office in January 2009 he will be prepared immediately to lead us. John will not need on the job training.

“American conservatives will have a President they can be proud of in John McCain.”

John McCain thanked Ambassador Bolton for his support, stating, “I have long admired John Bolton’s lifetime of service to our nation. From his work in the Reagan Administration to his most recent post at the UN, John Bolton has always been a stalwart defender of American national security interests and an effective advocate for advancing democracy and liberty around the world. I am humbled and honored to have his support.”. (via KJ Lopez)

Who is John Bolton? To be honest, I don’t really know that much about the guy, but everything I do know I love. He served as UN ambassador for most of Bush’s presidency, and did a bang-up job. This is a man that doesn’t put up with the bs that the UN likes to deal in, a man of integrity, and a man of strength and wisdom, and who I currently have quoted at the end of every email I send out as saying: “Weakness provokes evil.”

So, it’s not all puppy dogs and ice cream for me when when it comes to McCain, and probably never will be, but this certainly improves things.

What’s a conservative to do?? Plus mid-post bonus: Super Bowl joy

February 6, 2008

So long, Mittster. It was nice knowing ya.

It’s pretty obvious at this point that the results of Sooper Dooper Yooper Wooper Tuesday aren’t good for conservativism. It seems that, far from being a contender, Romney is a goner. And so that leaves McCain (McYuck) and Huckabee (I’ll refrain from the obvious slur on this one). I would not be surprised at all if Romney drops out this week.

It’s amazing what the roller coaster of life brings along. Just 2 days ago I was reveling in the pain of the object of my despisement (new word!), Mr. Tommy Brady Bunch. So, in the interest of cheering myself up, I’ll revisit that a little now…

HAHAHAHAHAAH!~!!!!!!!!! TOM BRADY IS A LOOOOOOOOOSER! How’s it feel now, mr. dump my pregnant girlfriend for a supermodel? eh? eh? Oh oh what’s that? Not the best ever? Can you say choke? choke choke choke??? No? How about lackluster performance? Can you say that? Oh wait, it’s not monosyllabic. I apologize.

Anyway. Back to the the end of conservative politics and the republican party as we know them. I am feeling sober this morning about the future prospects of many of the principles in which I firmly believe, but I haven’t lost hope. If there’s anything this whole process has taught me, it’s that KNOW ONE knows the future. Nobody, for example, would have predicted a scant 6 months ago that McCain and Huckabee would get this far. That being said, this election cycle is pretty much over for me. I have zero interest in any of the candidates left, and figuring out what I’m going to do in November in the voting booth will be a long difficult process. On the bright side, the very late May Kentucky primary might actually have some say in who wins the noms for a change.. it’s really too bad that they can all just go eat rocks as far as I’m concerned.

Now, although neither I nor anyone else can possibly predict what’s going to happen, I will try to get lucky.

I am sticking with the same prediction on the Democrat side that I’ve been making for over a year: Hillary wins. But, unlike what I had thought previously, it will not be by a landslide, but by the tips of her chest hair. And honestly, that’s the better thing- an Obama presidency would be a disaster.

On the Republican side, I’m sticking with what I’ve been saying since just before Christmas: McCain wins the nom, and ultimately loses the job to Hil Rod. Get ready, America.

And what of the Huckster? Unfortunately, I think we’ll be seeing him again in 2012 (how’s THAT for a prediction?!).
